So Kelly Moss, co-writer of the movie I Can't Think Straight, sent me the link to Beyonce's Single Ladies video about 3 months ago. My first thought was, haven't music videos come a long way since Abba? That's not really true, since before going into directing Leonie Casanova's videos of 'Broken' and 'Little Feeling', I spent time on You Tube trying to educate myself about how music videos have evolved since Karen Carpenter. Quite a bit, was the answer to that. Anyway, I digress, as usual. Back to the story, and we're in the car the other day with Leonie, going to a meeting with music executive people, and Leonie tells me how Single Ladies was filmed in one continuous shot. 'So who's this Beyonce?' Hanan asked. Leonie looked pained, as she realised that she'd just signed to Enlightenment Records, a company run by someone whose last album purchase was quite possibly Barry White. In the meantime, I was considering how fit you have to be to shake all that booty for 4 minutes continuously. I may have run a red light while thinking about it, but it didn't matter because a light of a different kind had gone on above Hanan's head. 'I know Beyonce!' she exclaimed. 'She's that new Russian singer, right?' Thank God the child locks were working, because Leonie tried to throw herself out of the car, and it was moving pretty fast...Anyway, you can see Leonie shaking her own booty at the end of the Little Feeling video posted on this very page and then you can see her lying seductively on a pool table in 'Broken'. We may not have had quite the same budget as that Russian girl, but we've come a long way from Abba, baby...
