Shamim Recommends…A Week in a Padded Room. Not Really.

Shockingly, in between proof-reading new versions of The World Unseen and I Can’t Think Straight, and when I have tamed the worst of Hanan’s spreadsheets, I get a moment to watch a movie or read a book that someone else wrote 🙂

In the spirit of sharing the things I love with you (which I will do for everything but my wife, Hanan’s fans please note!) we’ve set up a ‘Shamim recommends’ page, which gives you a very personal update on books, music, movies etc that I’ve enjoyed or am currently liking. Hope you enjoy the page too, and we’re looking at adding a comments section so I can get your recommendations too. Let me know what you think.

Shamim recommends the Location Cafe to Lisa Ray, and not just for a sandwich

I couldn't find “The Promise” at my local video store, but they did have “Promises”, a 2001 documentary by B.Z. Goldberg about seven Israeli & Palestinian children.  Awesome!  The “chair girl”, with her delightful combination of practical imagination and willingness not to stop until the job is done proved that the Middle East needs more women's voices!  Made me want to see “The House of Tomorrow” even more!

As always you inspire !! I don’t have a book to recommend but a film, ELENA UNDONE Which you most likely have already seen. If you having you as a lesbian film maker must see it. Of course it does not come close to your films, yours are so much more sensitive. I think you will agree that the film is a bit to “California” with the guru and all , but the actresses are stunning and have great chemistry. The stories are said to be true. I would like to know if you are acquainted with the film and/or the film maker?

Where's “Atlas Shrugged”?  It makes a great companion piece to the Burger King training manual on how to operate the deep fryer!

    LOVE the photo caption!!! 😀

May I recommend my favorite book, Ex Libris by Anne Fadiman. It's a collection of short essays on topics loosely related to reading. It's a quick read, or, more accurately, a series of quick reads, and her use of language is so enchanting that I sometimes read it aloud to myself just to hear it.

I am reallly going to enjoy this new feature!  Thanks for the suggestions!  I can heartily suggest Sara Gruen's “Ape House.”  Amazing characters and laughter.  The bonobos ROCK!

I want to live in the same universe as you–it seems there are more than 24 hours in a day in your world!  Where do you find the time to do it all?   That being said, I definitely like this new addition.  Keep it up!  🙂 🙂 🙂
