Now, I don’t like posting items that are not videos of me singing (or signing!) but I am just a little excited by the new cover of Despite the Falling Snow. To me, it looks like the spy thriller and epic love story it is. And we have Carine at Graphic Alchemy to thank for that yet again.

This version is only available at Amazon.com for now. The last of the original covers are still available from our own site here as paperback or hardbacks.

Would love to know what you think. I know many of you have read the book already – do you think the cover reflects the story?

Wow! It was but by chance that I came across your movie "I Can't Think Straight." The only other movie I've enjoyed watching over & over was "Saving Face." Thanks, I've also purchased your books "The World Unseen" and "Despite the Falling Snow." I look forward to receiving them and reading each one.
  • I feel I should say thank you as well. Shamim is a total inspiration and both she & Hanan are a joy to work with. Buy the book, peeps! It really is VERY good...

WOW! My gut reaction to this new cover is that it perfectly captures Sasha's impoverished heart...looking back...haunted by the sorrowful speculations and loss of his beloved Katya, whose dark beautiful eyes (and the whole of her they represent) are just as superimposed and central to this cover as she lays over all that is a part of Sasha's life --a journey whose destination and the paths taken to get there punctuate love and renewal.

    - A BIG "Thumbs Up" on the new cover and the story, Shamim.

Like all the readers, when I bought a book, first I look the title, the cover then read the blurb in the back cover....So the first cover of DTFS was enigmatic, poetic, now the new cover is more explicit, we have an idea of what the subject is.... I think that the mark is hit.

yes, i think the cover reflects well the story, because straightaway you know the story takes place under Stalin dictatorship ( Staline in french)!

This cover is much better. Agree with Jen Youdontneedit.

I got the book to read the first time on interlibrary loan through my local library. I want to own a copy, and prefer to give my business to Enlightenment Products over Amazon. I like the new cover because it draws one in and gives a sense of urgency/mystery just from the skulking figure behind Katya as she walks away...my two cents...So when you have the new cover available through your site, will you post it so we can put our hard earned cash in your wubbulously talented hands instead of Amazon? Thanks to Carine at Graphic Alchemy for her vision and talents!

I think the new cover does a far better job of being intriguing enough to cause someone perusing the shelves of Barnes & Noble to pick it and flip it over to read the back cover synopsis. The older cover didn't provide any such "preview."

The eyes...we learned in the novel that this was a physical feature so striking and enigmatic in and of themselves that they, in a way, could represent the whole of Katya's character. Having them on the cover is almost problematic to me because it's as complicated as trying to portray Helen of Troy (How do you find a face so beautiful that it embodies the power to 'launch a thousand ships'?). I think the eyes that each reader creates in their mind are critical and having them already pictured will take a bit away. Your writing is good enough to overcome this detail and still end with a powerful novel, but that's my two cents. I like the fact that the woman is pictured walking away from us because that is in keeping with the feeling of "just missed" truths and the mysterious, complicated nature we find in MULTIPLE characters in the novel.

It's all about intrigue and the "eyes" have it!

Both covers are great. The new one reflects what the book is about. An attention grabber. The old cover was more of a brainteaser. It validates the saying, "don't judge the book by its cover."....just a thought. =)

I haven't read the book (yet), but I really like the new cover. I too think it will sell the book. Now I'm just confused which one I shall order.
By the way, I wonder if it's been considered having the books translated into some other languages (french/spanish/german, I guess ..oh and Chinese for the Sheetal Sheth huge fan base there (?!)). Not that I mind fighting with my dictionary, but it makes them impossible to read in one streak. And it will sell more too. As much as I can promote DVDs to friends by using the wonderful arguments "there are subtitles !", it's getting a little difficult with the book ....

Hey--I like the new cover, and I especially think it will sell the book. BUT, I love the old one--it is very beautiful-- so I am going to order several more copies of the old one to give away and one to preserve--perhaps frame--for myself.
